Naira Campbell-Kyureghyan

Dr. Naira Campbell-Kyureghyan is an internationally renowned expert in musculoskeletal biomechanics, ergonomics, and human-centered design. She received her BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering and Controls from State Engineering University of Armenia, Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from American University of Armenia, and PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering/Biomechanics from the Ohio State University.

In 2005 she joined the faculty of Industrial Engineering Department at University of Louisville where she also served as Director of the Center for Ergonomics.

In 2009 Dr. Campbell-Kyureghyan moved to the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and became the founding director of the Consortium for Advanced Research in General Industries. During her 10 years at UWM she founded and directed several interdisciplinary research laboratories and received her tenure (2011) and full professor rank (2015).

From 2013 to 2018 she served as Department Chair of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department. Under her leadership the department increased undergraduate and graduate enrollment three-fold, established the first in the nation program in connected enterprises, passed several accreditations and reviews, completed facility constructions, formed international partnerships, raised over $25M in donations and became the fastest growing department in the college and university.

From 2019 to 2022 Dr. Campbell-Kyureghyan served as Dean of Science and Engineering at Merrimack College, Massachusetts. During that time the school developed and deployed new 5-year strategic plan, hired new faculty and staff, established new Data Science and Analytics department, launched 5 new programs, increased enrollment of UG (5%) and Grad (100%) programs despite COVID, launched women in STEM initiative, promoted research growth and collaboration with industry, implemented use of new technology for teaching, developed new fundraising plan.

Dr. Campbell-Kyureghyan taught in many countries over her career. She authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and presentations in ergonomics and occupational biomechanics, delivered a dozen keynote addresses nationally and internationally, and served on editorial boards of several major international journals in her field.

Dr. Campbell-Kyureghyan’s research was funded by the Department of Labor, National Science Foundation, Center for Disease Control, Department of Defense, and numerous industry partners. She has invented and successfully licensed products and holds pending patents in the US and Internationally. Additionally, she was an invited speaker and for many National events and government agencies, such as the US Department of Labor and NASA, several universities worldwide such as the University of Tel Aviv, Technion, and Ben Gurion University in Israel, Chang Gung University and Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, Budapest University of Technology and Economics in Hungary.
