Mark Grigoryan is an internationally acclaimed journalist, author, and media trainer. He launched his journalistic career in 1993, as deputy editor-in-chief of a Yerevan-based newspaper. From 1999-2003, he was the Armenian editor for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR). In 2002, Grigoryan survived an assassination attempt in Yerevan, when a grenade was thrown at his feet. Rather than silencing him, this experience reinforced his commitment to free expression and truthful reporting. Grigoryan went on to serve as a producer and broadcaster at the BBC World Service in London, and after returning back to Armenia, as Executive Director of Public Radio of Armenia and then Director of the National Museum-Institute of Architecture after Alexander Tamanyan. Author of more than 20 books and recipient of awards including the Hellman/Hammett grant for courage in journalism and the BBC Online Journalism Award, he has lectured at leading universities worldwide and continues to mentor and train journalists internationally.
