Gohar Abelyan is a Research Associate at the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR). She has joined the CHSR in December 2013 and has been mainly involved in projects focusing on smoking cessation, organization of neonatal care services as well as child health and nutrition. Her research interests also include non-communicable diseases. Before joining CHSR, she worked at the child sponsorship department of World Vision Armenia. Gohar also worked as a volunteer at UNICEF and World Vision Armenia (Yerevan ADP), where she was involved in programs focusing on healthcare, child protection and education. In 2015, Gohar earned a Master of Public Health degree (MPH) from the American University of Armenia. During her studies at AUA, she received full merit-based scholarship from AUA and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia and other merit based scholarships. She has published her MPH thesis project entitled “A case-control study of risk factors of chronic venous ulceration in patients with varicose veins” in the Journal of Phlebology, which is the only English language journal entirely devoted to venous disease and is officially endorsed by the American College of Phlebology.
