Emma Chookaszian is a medievalist and an expert of Armenian miniature painting, working with private collections worldwide. A graduate from Paul Valery’s University in Montpellier, with a Doctor’s degree in Medieval History and Art History, today she writes on the topics of Armenian miniature painting of different periods. Emma Chookaszian is the author of around 30 articles and
conference presentations published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and magazines worldwide. She is the recipient of a number of grants and fellowships for her work, including the Global Excellence grant from the French Government, Sirarpie Der Nersessian grant for Armenian studies, Calouste Gulbenkian global excellence grant and the AGBU grant for Armenian studies. In her dissertation entitled “The Iconographical, Historical and Theological Analysis of the Manuscripts Commanded by the First Three Kings of the Hethumid Dynasty” defended in December 2017 in Paul Valery’s University in Montpellier, Emma Chookaszian analyzed majority of the Royal manuscripts of Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia illustrated in the second half of the 13th century. Emma Chookaszian is the author of two monographs: “The Gospel of Prince Vasak and the Iconographic Traditions of Armenian Miniature Painting of Cilicia”(Yerevan 2023). “The Gospels of Queen Keran: Transition to the Post-Roslin Era in Armenian Miniature Painting of Cilicia” (Yerevan 2024).
