Dr. Anya Agopian is an Assistant Professor in the Turpanjian College of Health Sciences at the American University of Armenia. Her work and research thus far have focused on the intersection between infectious disease prevention and behaviors, using surveillance and systematic data collection to help inform public health activities and policy.  After obtaining her MPH from the University of Southern California, Dr. Agopian worked with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health conducting infectious disease surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases.  She went on to receive her PhD in epidemiology from the George Washington University, where she also managed the Washington, DC site of the CDC-sponsored National HIV Behavioral Surveillance project, a bio-behavioral surveillance system focused on persons at high risk for HIV infection. Dr. Agopian currently teaches graduate courses in epidemiology and data management, as well as an undergraduate health course.
